The AT-VMx series cartridges bring new warmth and realism to Audio-Technica's phono cartridges. Premium MM product line with dual moving magnet cartridges, offering a wide, vibrant, and detailed sound.
Like all our MM cartridges, these models are closely modeled on the design of a cutting head used to produce vinyl master records. They utilize two magnets positioned to correspond to the left and right channels of the stereo record groove, providing outstanding channel separation and an extended frequency response. The new VMx series also introduces materials and designs that deliver an even more refined sound and particularly precise responses to the dynamics of the music.
All VMx cartridges feature a generator with a paratoroidal coil design, with two coils per channel arranged one behind the other for significantly improved efficiency. Additionally, a shielding plate in the center separates the left and right channels, reducing crosstalk and contributing to a clean stereo image. The coils in the new series use high-purity, ultra-drawable PCUHD® (Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability) copper wire, enabling fuller, more nuanced audio reproduction. To optimize impulse response, the number of windings on these coils has also been slightly reduced, allowing the cartridge to respond more quickly to signal changes. This results in an incredibly clear, direct sound – as if it were live.
The new, lightweight Shibata stylus on the AT-VM750xSH features a longer contact surface in the record groove than elliptical styluses and can capture even ultra-high frequencies. Further advantages include very low distortion and minimal wear. The solid boron cantilever also supports the fine, nuanced sound, as signal transmission is approximately 2.5 times faster than the hollow aluminum cantilever of the previous model, resulting in more accurate reproduction of dynamic musical passages.
We've also equipped the die-cast aluminum housings of our VMx cartridges with threaded inserts, simplifying installation (only two screws are required). This is especially helpful with integrated tonearms, as is commonly found on high-end turntables. Last but not least, the new V-shaped recess in the hinged protective cap allows for a quick view of the stylus at any time, serving as a guide when lowering the needle onto the record.
